Canned Response

Dear XX,

I am writing to you in connection to the #ToTheLeft project. Left turns have the highest risk of driver conflicts on the road. As a driver and/ or cyclist, I am concerned with the lack of protected left-turn lights in Ontario.

Left-turn collisions account for nearly 1/5 of all traffic-related fatalities in Toronto alone. Despite the implementation of bike tracks, cyclist-motor vehicle collisions increased from 8% before installation to 22% after installation (Source).

Over 90% of these accidents can be prevented with a protected left-turn because it allows drivers to safely turn. As it stands most intersection accidents occur because of drivers failing to make a safe left turn (Source).

I would like to see you join in the call for protected left-turn lights in Ontario. If we are to reduce intersection accidents, protected left-turn lights are the solution. More left-turn lights will be an investment in the safety of all, including pedestrians and drivers.

We need the province to take action. It is up to the municipalities to limit the risks dangerous left turns pose on the road.

Help us install 22 protected left-turn lights as this year’s initiative.

Thank you XX, for taking the time to read this letter. Together, I believe we can make Ontario intersections safer.

Sincerely,
